Welcome to Home Cooking is Better, my cozy corner of the internet!
My name is Andrea and I’m excited to be able to help you become comfortable and confident in your kitchen cooking homemade meals.
I share simple, real food recipes with moms (and dads too), so we all can give our families the best nutrition possible from the comfort of our home.
Because homecooked food is proven to be overall healthier.
(Don’t just take my word for it, check out this medical study showing how homecooked food is much better than fast-food and full-service restaurant food.
Home Cooking is Better!
Cooking at home will instantly help you and your family consume a healthier diet.
Choosing to reduce the amount of fast-food and restaurant meals can eliminate lots of low-quality ingredients and nasty preservatives.
As a mom, I’ve always believed that the dinner table is more than just a place to eat; it’s also where memories are made, stories are shared, and bonds are strengthened.
Since 2019, I’ve really kicked it up a notch with my cooking from scratch! I’ve been honing my kitchen skills and crafting delicious meals for my family to enjoy.
Bread baking, homemade bone broth, casseroles, spatchcocking chicken, making my own homemade turkey sausage (yes, I butcher turkeys in my kitchen) and so much more, are all now a part of my common cooking practices.
IN THE MIDST OF ALL THE GREAT THINGS HAPPENING AROUND THE TABLE, IT FEELS GOOD KOWING I’M NOURISHING MY FAMILY WITH WHOLESOME HOME-COOKED MEALS.
And let’s not forget, homecooked meals are how we as busy moms take care of ourselves too!
Here’s a personal side note: Home-made healthy meals were key to helping me get off of high blood pressure medication during my postpartum recovery.
I truly believe in the power of whole foods and quality ingredients.
And the truth is, you don’t have to be a professionally trained chef to feed your family well.
You just need to make a lifestyle of buying good-quality, seasonal food and learning basic kitchen skills to get healthy meals on the table.
Through my kitchen adventures and recipe testing, I aim to inspire moms to become more confident and equipped to feed their families well with home-cooked meals.
As I have continued to “learn my way around the kitchen”, my love for cooking has sparked my desire to create the blog Homecookingisbetter.com
Here you will find sweets baked from scratch, meals using simple ingredients, and sourdough bread recipes.
Made right here in my practical kitchen as a mom just like you!
If you’re new to cooking from scratch, I assure you, that you will be cooking with confidence in no time as you follow along with each recipe! Start here.
Homecooked Meals Beat Fast Food Every Time
In today’s fast-paced world, convenience often seems to trump all other factors, including cost.
It’s easy to fall into the habit of swinging by the drive-thru or ordering takeout when time is short and hunger is gnawing.
However, when it comes to your wallet, those seemingly quick and cheap fast-food meals can add up faster than you might realize.
Homecooked food is not only healthier but also more affordable in the long run.
Ingredients on a Budget
At first glance, it might seem like fast food offers a cheaper alternative to cooking at home.
However, when you break down the cost of ingredients per meal, homecooked meals often come out cheaper.
Buying groceries in bulk, choosing seasonal produce, and opting for store brands can significantly reduce your overall spending.
Plus, leftovers from homemade meals can be repurposed into delicious lunches or dinners, stretching your budget even further.
Portion Control
One of the sneaky ways fast food restaurants get you is through misleading portion sizes.
What seems like a good deal on a “value meal” can quickly become excessive unhealthy foods, leading to overeating and unnecessary spending.
When you cook at home, you have complete control over portion sizes, allowing you to tailor meals to your family’s needs and avoid wasting food.
Invest in Kitchen Essentials for more Cooking at Home
Building a collection of basic kitchen tools and pantry staples might seem like an initial investment, but it pays off.
As a home-chef, you’ll need your pots, pans, and utensils.
Frequently used kitchen tools make cooking at home more efficient.
So, whether it’s a sharp knife for precise slicing or a sturdy skillet for sautéing, investing in kitchen essentials is an investment in the joy of cooking at home.
With a well-stocked kitchen, you’ll be equipped to whip up delicious meals at a moment’s notice without relying on expensive pre-packaged foods or takeout.
